Contemporary Artist Based in Northern Ireland

Becky Cole is a contemporary artist based in Northern Ireland. She was trained at the renowned National College of Art and Design in Dublin and also completed a diploma at Trinity College Dublin in European Painting. Her work is a reaction to the land that surrounds her, where she mainly works plein air or from her studio located on her farm.

Artist’s Statement

For me, the landscape is my mirror. It contains so much energy, emotion and colour but it also is a reflection of my own life, struggles and joys. I’ve always enjoyed subject matter that provides turbulence and questioning but has a beautiful element. As an undergraduate I was particularly interested in self portraits, club culture and lap dogs. A curious mix and one which has transformed as I have matured with my work but the interest in escapism, self enquiry and the effect of humans on the natural world remains. Currently I find the land around me the most captivating subject matter- the changing seasons, the effect of climate change, the human touch and also the lack of it. The embedded memories of those who have worked and lived on the land before me and my own emotions. I am also currently working on a bloom series depicting cut flowers in vases.
